On My Last Day

If I had one day left to live,
I would spend it with the one I love,
Close and by his side,
In my finals hours,
Whispering things into his ear,
And laughing carelessly.

I would write him a love letter,
So that in the months,
And years to come,
He may read it,
And remember me.

I will take my love letter,
And spray it lightly,
With my sweet scented perfume,
So that when he opens it for the first time,
It may smell like me,
And it will feel as though I am there.

I will give him the letter,
As it sits upon my black box,
Filled with all of the things,
He has ever given me,
So he may look back,
At the memories we shared together.

I shall as well give him,
The gold locket that,
Has hung around my neck for so long,
Symbolically giving him my heart,
As I will need it no more.

And lastly,
I will give my precious love,
A kiss,
And with my last breath,
Give him my final words,
“I love you.”
